What is your Core Process?
It all started with Chris Bull at ICI in the 1970's... fast forward to an executive meeting in January 2008 and you come to where I was recommended to have my 'core process' done. Psychometric testing, role-playing, tests under pressure and tests that 'are not tests'... I am a cynic and take these with a degree of caution that I believe they deserve. Told the Core Process was different, I finally succumbed to this 'compromise'. Essentially the Core Process is taking time out for some self-awareness training and let this increase your effectiveness and confidence in the workplace. You start by talking about yourself - 4 stories that are positive and 2 that are negative. These are events - no analysis! Your interviewer takes notes (which are yours to keep) and asks you to choose one of the positive stories to talk about in more detail. Capturing the words you use and discussing which ones have a resonance with you ultimately brings you to your two all encompassing words - these 2 words are what is described as your 'core'. Apparently some executives have these on their wall, others are just entertained by an exercise with no formulas or tick boxes where they are given an opportunity to reflect on themselves. What is extraordinary is how many executives turn to their Core Process in a time of corporate crisis or extreme challenge. This learning experience gives you another way to look at a situation and help you deal with it. We can never have too many of those! Executive Health - How to beat Bowel Cancer It may lack glamour, but it still packs a killer punch: bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK, claiming some fifty lives every day. Of the 35,500 people estimated to develop the disease each year, half will die: a sad testament to the fact that not enough people are seeking diagnosis or treatment early enough when the disease is in its, eminently curable, early stages. Preventicum highlights the importance of screening for any polyps that might go on to manifest themselves malignantly in the body ensuring that all visitors to the clinic leave with peace of mind safe in the knowledge that potential nasties will have been detected. A Preventicum full-body check-up augments the standard blood and urine tests with in-depth screening for major health conditions and their all-important risk factors: including a radiation-free MRI colonoscopy to look for bowel cancer and its primary precursor of polyps. Particularly prevalent in those of middle-age (1 in 10 people of 60 will develop them), polyps manifest themselves in the colon and, if left undetected and untreated, can spread and become malignant.
